Read the pattern and the yarn together
The pattern supplies the target: finished size, yarn weight, required length, gauge, construction, and intended fabric. The label supplies the candidate yarn's fiber, weight category, put-up, suggested tools, and care requirements.
A swatch then shows whether your yarn, tools, and hands can make the fabric the pattern needs. The useful loop is simple: read, compare, swatch, wash, measure, and adjust. A brand name or weight number alone cannot complete that check.
