Dye yarn with a fibre-matched recipe
The fibre determines the dye family and process; weigh dry fibre and use the dye maker’s recipe.
Gather and work
Read the yarn composition and choose a dye expressly suitable for it. Tie a loose skein with several figure-eight ties, weigh it dry, calculate the recipe quantities, then wet it as the recipe directs.
First project
Try a small labelled skein before a full supply. Record fibre, dry mass, recipe quantities and the resulting colour after rinsing and drying.
Keep the work even
Use gloves and ventilation required by the dye instructions, avoid breathing powders and keep dedicated utensils away from food. Temperature, acid/alkali and disposal instructions belong to the chosen dye recipe.
