Crochet abbreviations
US sc, hdc, dc and tr are different stitch heights; UK names are shifted by one.
Work the technique
US sc = UK dc; US hdc = UK htr; US dc = UK tr; US tr = UK dtr. ch and sl st keep the same meaning. inc means increase and dec means decrease; the pattern defines how.
Try it on a sample
[2 sc, inc] 6 times consumes 18 base stitches and produces 24. A ch1 turning height is separate unless expressly counted.
Check and recover
Read the convention before converting. Preserve numbers and repeats while replacing the entire term; do not replace dc inside hdc.
