Join yarn in knitting
Start the new yarn at a seam or row edge when possible and secure both tails after the fabric is complete.
Work the technique
Leave a tail on each yarn. Work the first stitches with the new yarn alone, holding its tail loosely so it cannot pull out. After finishing, weave each tail through the reverse side in more than one direction.
Try it on a sample
Join after 10 rows of a 20-stitch sample. Work ten more rows, weave both ends and gently stretch the join.
Check and recover
Do not add a tight knot that distorts the fabric. Slippery, bulky and felt-resistant yarns need a longer weaving path; a felted join requires a fibre that actually felts.
