Knitting in the round

Circular knitting builds a tube without turning after every row.

Work the technique

Cast on, check for twists, join and mark the beginning. Stockinette is knit every round; garter alternates knit and purl rounds. Use double-pointed needles, two circulars or magic loop when the needle circumference is too long.

Try it on a sample

Make a 32-stitch tube with 6 rib rounds and 12 stockinette rounds. Count the marker crossing as the round ending.

Check and recover

A staircase colour change at the join is expected in a spiral of rounds. A twisted cast-on makes a twisted tube; remake the join before continuing.
