Crochet chart symbols
Crochet symbols show stitch type and insertion point; read each chart’s stated US or UK convention.
Work the technique
In this chart studio, an oval is ch; a small dot is slip stitch; + is US sc; T is US hdc; a barred T is US dc; a double-barred T is US tr. Lines sharing a base are worked in the same insertion point.
Try it on a sample
Draw a 15-sc row and mark ch1 at the edge separately. A turning chain excluded from the count must not become a sixteenth sc.
Check and recover
Rows turn, while rounds move around a centre. A symbol’s location does not replace the instructions about whether a starting chain counts.
