Counted practice swatch

Cast on an even number, such as 20 stitches. The repeat is 2 stitches.

Work the repeat

Every flat row: [k1, p1] 10 times. For an even count, the reverse face begins the same sequence. In the round, keep k1 above a knit column and p1 above a purl column.

Read the fabric

Stretch the sample sideways to find the recessed purl columns. If a column changes to bumps midway, check whether you knitted a purl stitch.
