Blanket sizes in inches and centimetres
Choose the finished width and length for the person and purpose first. Blanket names vary by maker; the dimensions below are examples, not universal standards.
Example finished dimensions
A baby or receiving blanket can be about 30–40 inches (76.2–101.6 cm) in each dimension, depending on use. The other rows are examples from one blanket manufacturer. Measure a bed or existing blanket before choosing a bed-size target.

Centimetres use the exact conversion 1 inch = 2.54 cm. Dimensions describe finished fabric, before any border or fringe you decide to add.
Turn a size into a project plan
- Choose a target width and length from the examples or your own measurement.
- Make, wash and measure a swatch in your chosen stitch pattern; use that measured swatch's stitch and row gauge for the target dimensions.
- Enter that swatch's measured area and yarn mass in the quantity calculator, along with your chosen blanket width and length. Add any border or allowance separately.
There is no reliable universal skein count for a blanket size: stitch pattern, gauge, fibre, yarn and finishing all change consumption.
