Chain 23, a multiple of 3 plus 2.

Work the repeat

Row 1: work (dc, ch1, dc) in fifth chain from hook; [skip 2 chains, (dc, ch1, dc) in next chain] 5 times; skip 2 chains, dc in last chain. The skipped start chains count as one edge dc. Row 2: ch3 (counts as edge dc), V in each of the 6 ch1 spaces, dc in top of turning chain. Repeat row 2: 14 dc and 6 chain-one spaces.

Read the fabric

Work each V into the chain-one opening, not into its two dc posts. The two edge dc remain outside the six V units.
