Choose yarn for your project

Choose the fabric and care routine first, then match the yarn’s gauge, movement and surface to the job.

Blankets and washcloths

For a repeatedly washed blanket, choose a product with a compatible washing routine and test a border corner. For a cleaning cloth, cotton supplies absorbency and clear texture; check its exact care band.

Hats and socks

A fitted brim needs recovery: include its ribbing in the sample. Socks need abrasion resistance and a compatible washing routine; a wool-and-nylon blend is a common starting point.

Summer tops and shawls

Cotton and linen suit firmer summer fabrics; silk and regenerated cellulose can add flowing movement. Hang a generously sized washed sample to assess growth.

Toys and bags

For stuffed shapes use a dense fabric with no visible stuffing holes. A bag needs a stable sample, securely attached handles and an appropriate lining when carrying heavy objects.
