Knitting finishing techniques
Finish in an order that lets you check seams, edges and fit before trimming the yarn ends.
Work the technique
Block pieces to matching measurements when required. Join shoulders, pick up neck bands, set sleeves and join side seams according to the construction. Weave ends after trying the shape.
Try it on a sample
Join two small swatches, add a picked-up garter edge, then wash and inspect whether the join lies flat.
Check and recover
A puckered band often has too many or too few pickups. Count pickups against the measured edge and distribute them evenly rather than guessing at each stitch.
